This band were from Seattle, Washington and existed from 1996. During their time together they released 4 albums before parting ways after playing their final show in November 2003. In 2004 I Before E was released which consisted mostly of live recordings and three more original songs. They'll Only Miss You When You Leave was released in 2010 and is a compilation of some of their best work. It serves as a great introduction to their work. Tucson was released following a reunion show on september 24th 2011 and would be to date their very final release.
I first learned of their existence after reading on an internet forum that their song So You Wanna Be A Superhero was among the saddest songs ever written, and upon hearing it I was not disappointed but rather crying into my pillow. If depression could be recorded then this band would be it. As the variety of instrumentation used effortlessly blended together and the mournful lyrics filled with sorrow and loss crowd my emotions, making me sink down beneath the earth questioning my very existence on this planet. I hope everyone's listening experience is like this.
Carissa's Wierd have been too long overlooked and massively underrated. They are a band that means a great deal to me as I'm sure they do to a lot of people. It's difficult for any band to reach out to their listeners the way they do and for a band to impact peoples lives so greatly is an achievement. It's such a shame their time as a band came to an end with so much potential yet to be unleashed. No words I write can do them justice so I urge you to download and listen to them.
